Since purchasing Freya three years ago, apart from enjoying her on the water we have engaged in an ongoing restoration project which has involved improvement, upgrades and attention to every single aspect of Freya’s hull, rig, deck, mechanical and electrical systems, interior space, steering and performance. The list of work done is enormous and many hundreds of man hours, effort, blood and a significant financial outlay has produced an outstanding result we are very proud of. We have employed excellent and highly skilled boat builders, engineers, riggers and traditional wooden boat to bring Freya to her current condition. All receipts for work carried out are available.
A brief list of the work carried out includes the following areas
After lift out, we carried out a full hull inspection and overhaul, several planks
replaced, followed by a full three coat repaint, new anodes, antifouling,
renovation of the rudder stock and full overhaul of the steering system.
Both masts were craned off into the yard and sanded back to bare wood
before having seven coats of varnish applied. Both masts were fitted with
new galvanised rigging, made to order by a traditional boat rigger in
Cornwall. This rigging is in keeping with the traditional design of the boat
and will have a life of at least 20 years, maintenance free.
The mizzen was fitted with a new radar scanner and bluetooth connected
windex, various small repairs and upgrades were done to the masts during
this process too including new wiring to the aerials, nav lights and radar
scanner. All the large wooden running rigging blocks were restored and
replaced with new as needed.
All five spars, the two booms, two gaffs and bowsprit were sanded back to
bare wood in a large heated workshop and coated with seven coats of
varnish.
The deck paint was stripped back to bare wood, repaired where needed and
painted with Protectacote waterproof non-slip paint.
The topside structures, deckhouse and cabin roofs were stripped to bare
wood and varnished with five coats of high quality varnish.

wheel, instrumentation, running rigging and numerous other upgrades and
repairs were carried out.
A large manual bilge pump was fitted to add to the six automatic electric
bilge pumps.
Apart from the restoration of the masts and new standing rigging, all the sails
have been professional serviced and repaired where needed. New hanks
were fitted where necessary. All other associated equipment, parrel beads,
belaying pins and racks, dead eyes etc were all taken back to bare wood
and given five coats of varnish. All four sails have new professionally
measured and made covers, the main sail cover having Freya sown onto the
sides. There are also two matching saloon and forward cabin hatch covers
and a wheel cover.
Main engine, generator and hydraulic steering have all been professionally
maintained and serviced and are in excellent seagoing order. All electrical
systems have been checked, overhauled and upgraded where necessary.
Nav lights have been improved and new domestic batteries fitted where
needed. The main engine bay has been fitted with an automatic fire
extinguisher system for extra safety.
